Sleep In Heavenly Peace
Believe it or not, there are currently over 100-bed requests for children without beds in Tallahassee. We'd like to do something about that. As part of our Discipleship 101 weekend of service to others, we are asking for commitments to deliver and assemble pre-made bunk beds on Saturday morning July 30th. We need commitments ASAP. Please consider recruiting 2-3 friends and signing up as a team to deliver one bunk (two beds) to someone's home to assemble the pre-build bed. It usually requires about 2 hours per bed.
Psssst: These D101 projects are terrific opportunities to invite friends and extended family members participation!
Help Stock Up Ms. Hutchins' Classroom!
Did you know that the zip code with the lowest-income families in the state of Florida is located right here in Tallahassee? According to one source, the median household income in the 32304 zip code is $23,4398. Because many of the families currently living in that zip code are zoned for Riley Elementary School, we have incorporated D101 efforts in recent years to assist students and teachers at Riley.
Two years ago we donated backpacks filled with school supplies to assist students in getting a good start to the school year. Last year we had a wonderful experience partnering with a first-year, first-grade teacher, along with her class. CPC generously purchased everything listed on her Amazon wishlist to set up her classroom. Later in the year, we sent small holiday gifts for students and finished the year by sponsoring an end-0f-year field trip and pizza party for the entire class at Redemptive Love Farm. The entire experience was pure joy!
This year, the Outreach and Christian Education Ministries have recommended that we adopt another first-year teacher at Riley. Ms. Leah Hutchins is a recent graduate of Flagler College at TCC, and is looking forward to starting her first year as a teacher on August 1st as she prepares for students to begin on August 10th. At our request, she has created an Amazon wish list of items she needs for her classroom. We ask that you review her list, and consider purchasing a few items to support her entry into the teaching profession.
We ask that all items purchased for donation be mailed to the church so that we can deliver them ourselves, and further establish an ongoing relationship with Ms. Hutchins or you can bring the supplies to the church to be delivered. Please let Carol know if you are willing to help deliver donations to Ms. Hutchins' classroom.
Ms. Hutchins will be our guest at our D101 Lasagna Dinner on Friday, July 29th, at 5:30 pm. We hope that you will consider RSVPing for the dinner if you have not already!
The most important items on the wish list are the following:
- Crayons
- EXPO markers
- Anchor chart paper
- Pencils
- Scissors
- Rulers
- Pencil sharpener
- Glue sticks
- Caddies
- Document sorter
- Dry erase clipboards
